22nd Biennial New Chaucer Society Congress, Durham 2022

Inside the TLC

The new Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) on South Road is a three-storey building, containing:

  • a foyer, café, access to the lecture-theatres on the ground floor, and some of classrooms (level 0);
  • further access to the lecture-theatres, together with more classrooms on the first floor (level 1);
  • and finally, on the top floor, a large circulation/social space (level 2).

Each of the teaching-rooms has a lectern equipped with a PC providing access to the displays. Delegates wishing to use a Powerpoint/Keynote presentation should either bring a memory stick with them (so that their file can be loaded directly onto the lectern PC) or send the presentation file to us in advance (via ncs.2020@durham.ac.uk), preferably before Monday, 27th June. It is also possible to attach a laptop to the AV system via an HDMI connection. (Users of Mac laptops will need to bring an appropriate HDMI adapter – for recent models this will be a HDMI-to-Thunderbolt connector.)

In addition, each room is equipped with (at least) the following:
  • Touchscreen control panel
  • Dual visualiser
  • 1 fixed microphone
  • 2-4 handheld microphones
  • 2 lapel microphones
NB Due to fire regulations, each room has a strict limit on the number of people it can contain (as listed below). Delegates will be asked not to enter a room if all the available seats are full; and sessions will be stopped if ever a room's capacity is exceeded (and will not be restarted until numbers are safe again). This conference has multiple parallel sessions, so there will always be other options: if one room is full, others will certainly have space.

The building also contains several break-out spaces, and a quiet room.
